For over 30 years Midea has been making and supplying air conditioning and household white goods and appliances to a global market. Midea started by producing air conditioning and quickly built their global reputation in the years following becoming one of China’s largest manufacturers.
As a result of a public contest back in the early 1980’s, they chose the name Midea (pronounced My-dee-ah) which means “beautiful” in Mandarin. Midea is a privately owned company, a rarity in China where state-owned businesses still make up the majority part of enterprises.
Today Midea produce more air conditioning globally than almost any other manufacturer – 30% of all the air conditioners in the world come out of Midea’s international manufacturing plants destined for over 150 countries. In the last few years Midea have invested heavily in robot-powered factory automation to increase quality and production capacities. Forming joint-venture partnerships with a major Japanese global robot supplier, Yaskawa Electric, and with a continued US$800 million dollar investment in robotic facilities in the coming few years, Midea are poised for very big things.
Midea is also a big name in large household appliances, manufacturing high quality refrigerators, freezers, washing machines and a range of small environmental household appliances for Australian homes.
